Swimming in the River Aare

With temperatures reaching 35 degrees in the shade in the Swiss capital of Berne, there's no wonder people living there flock to the River Aare for a refreshing swim. Being a busy city surrounded by nothing but land, one of the only ways for locals to enjoy the heat is to cool down in the River Aare. However, this isn't any old river as we know it; the current of the Aare is so strong that it sweeps you along. The current will take you along the river at 2 metres a second, so it's advised that you should be a strong swimmer if you want to carry out this exhilarating swim. Some people swim in the river everyday throughout the year, even when it's icy cold! Because the water comes down from the Alps, it's very fresh and clean, just what you want on a hot day.
