How to Choose the Right Swimming Goggles

Goggles are available in a variety of size, shape and colour, so it can be a bit daunting trying to pick one. One of the main reasons why people wear goggles is to see more clearly underwater, as well as protecting your eyes from chlorine and any other harmful bacteria. To help you decide which goggles are best for you, here are the main styles and types of goggles...

Racer Goggles

These are designed to be more streamline, so they have a smaller eye gusset to help reduce drag. Racer goggles are used for competing, and to give a secure fit during dives and turns. The emphasis on the low profile shape means that this type of goggle may not be the most comfortable compared to fitness and leisure goggles.

Training & Fitness

If you're swimming for long periods of time, comfort will be your priority as you will be swimming many lengths in one session. You should therefore choose a goggle that will be comfortable around the eyes.

Swim Masks

These types of goggles are loosely based on scuba diving masks. They give an excellent seal which reduces the chance of water leaks, this is due to the bigger profile which gives greater suction on your face. They are very comfortable and are ideal for open water swimming and water sports as they have a greater field of vision than other types of goggles.   If you're a regular swimmer you need to replace your goggles every 4-6 months, this is because the chlorine in the water will gradually break down the material and mean that you don't have an as-effective seal.   You can browse our full range of goggles here.
