In 2003 'The Dolfin Uglies' craze took hold. This started out as a group of promotional prints that Dolfin struggled to shift. Slowly these gaudy prints started to make a name for themselves within the swimming community and became desirable as training suits. 'The Uglies' became a term coined by swimmers and crazy prints started being requested to help them stand out at their club training sessions.
The Dolfin Uglies Swimwear was born as part of the Dolfin Company which was founded in Pennsylvania under the name 'Reading Airchutes Inc' and they manufactured cargo parachutes for the US Air Force in a factory in Pennsylvania. This connection to supplying the armed forces with parachutes in WWII and having received an 'E' award, was recognition of their war effort and led them onto nylon lingerie and eventually swimwear (and other sportswear) right throughout the 80's.
Dolfin Uglies are used by girls and women with some patterns spreading across both. The bright and vibrant patterns will certainly help any swimmer be seen and they have signature straps that are striped with great elasticity for comfort. Styling within the Uglies collection ranges from V-2 Backs (Uglies claim that this is and has been, America's No.1 training suit for over a decade) to two pieces and a girls closed back that gives great coverage. The fabric used on this range is 91% Polyester and 9% Spandex that gives chlorine resistance, great elasticity and comfort, combined with high durability for those swimmers that train on a very regular basis. Dolfin and Uglies manage to bring together fashion and function. The uglies range is suitable for all ages and levels and the funky patterns will help swimmers everywhere stand out from the crowd.
